The first poster incorporates an image from the scene in which Kanji Watanabe is sitting on the swing in the city park his efforts solely created. This image is used to be the aperture in the letter 'U'.
The second poster is a still from the opening frame of the film showing an x-ray of Watanabe's abdomen where his yet undiscovered cancer grows. It is this cancer that will eventually set Watanabe's plans of creating a park in the middle of a congested Tokyo for the local children in motion. The street map also serves to mimic his internal organs.
